Poetic Responses to Psalms and Scripture

I will instruct you and teach you

the way you should go.

Exult, you just,

all you upright of heart!

          Ps. 32:8,11

Stand as if heaven

came nearer

to your head.

Breathe,

broadening the channel

of your throat.

What holds

you up?

Have you thought of that?

Not your shoulders.

Relax!

Your feet fidget,

ready to move.

Humankind was made

to walk upright.
